申友GMAT Jammy老师解析：此题是GMAT OG上的一道难题，碰到长划线句子，大家一定不要慌。做难题按照步骤走，先看原句主干，The first trenches，马上去找谓语动词have yielded 宾语strong evidence。主干的逻辑语义我们要去判断是否符合常识，这些trenches（壕沟）提供了证据。到这里为止，我们可以发现其实主干没有问题，再对比五个选项，BD马上排除，主谓不一致。 A选项evidence后面+for+n 表示为什么提供证据，而CE选项后面接了that引导同位语从句表示证据的内容是复杂的社会是同时兴起而又各自独立的。再看同位语从句的时态也是一般过去式优先。

申友GMAT Jammy老师解析：原句涉及到了not only的倒装，not only倒装的时候要注意，be动词或者结构助动词提前，原句中的动词变为动词原型，第二but also必须出现主语，but和also可以省略其一。五个选项中只有AB符合条件，对比发现sell和selling有区别找到和sell语义上平行的词，应该是pilfer 盗窃，所以此题选A

4. In no other historical sighting did Halley’s Comet cause such a worldwide sensation as did its return in 1910–1911.

申友GMAT Jammy老师解析：此题是一道比较题，由于前面涉及到了倒装还原成正常语序Halley’s Comet caused such a worldwide sensation in no other historical sighting ，as后主语应该还是可以与哈雷彗星比较的东西或者说它自己与自己的比较 ABDE的名词都是回归，不能将哈雷彗星和它的回归进行比较，没有可比性，所以答案是E.

5. Recently documented examples of neurogenesis, the production of new brain cells, include the brain growing in mice when placed in a stimulating environment or neurons increasing in canaries that learn new songs.

申友GMAT Jammy老师解析：A抓住句子主干，主语examples of neurogensis（如果不知道neurogenesis是什么后面的同位语有解释，是新脑细胞的繁殖），所以是新脑细胞繁殖的例子，谓语include包括，宾语大脑，逻辑不合理。BC主干：新脑细胞繁殖的例子包括老鼠

不合理；D新脑细胞繁殖的例子包括 大脑发展，合理；但是后面出现了when placed 省略的是主语和be动词，而我们的主语是examples ... 逻辑语义不通；E新脑细胞繁殖的例子包括 大脑发展，合理；mice that are...定语从句，后面or an increase in neurons，新脑细胞繁殖的例子还包括神经元的增长，也合理。原句意思，新脑细胞繁殖的例子包括被放在刺激环境中的老鼠的大脑发展或者是 在唱歌的金丝雀的神经元的增长。
